Where’s my refund?

Check your refund status in your IRS online account or with the IRS refund tracker, starting about 24 hours after you e-file a current-year return or 4 weeks after you mail a paper return. You’ll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status and exact refund amount.

Offer in compromise

An offer in compromise may let you settle your tax debt for less than the full amount if you can’t pay in full or doing so would cause financial hardship. The IRS considers your income, expenses and asset equity, and its Pre-Qualifier Tool can help you check eligibility.

Penalty relief

You may qualify for penalty relief if you tried to comply with the tax laws but couldn’t because of circumstances beyond your control. Relief types include first-time penalty abatement and reasonable cause; start by following the instructions on your IRS notice.
